  • Heart of every research project is the problem
  • Success of project depends on: seeing the problem with clarity, and to state it in precise and unmistakable terms
  • Some research projects are intended to enhance basic knowledge about physical, biological, psychological or social world, or to shed light on historical, cultural or aesthetic phenomenon
  • Basic research: projects that can advance human beings’ theoretical conceptualizations about a particular topic
  • Applied research: informs human decision making about practical problems
